Backpacking the 100 Mile Wilderness through Maine July 24 to August 17, 2010 Cost: $2700
The hikers will report to Wyonegonic Camps in Denmark, ME to spend two days preparing for the trip. This preparation will include:
- Orientation
- Team building
- Equipment inspection
- Review of hiking skills
- Orienteering/GPS
- First Aid training
- Low impact camping practices
- Pack food and group equipment
This adventure will consist of backpacking through the 100 Mile Wilderness on the Appalachian Trail in Maine. The trip will culminate on the summit of Katahdin in Baxter State Park. This challenging trail requires careful map and trail reading. The group will be camping at primitive tent sites and shelters. The group will make decisions for each day’s hike to maintain the projected schedule.
The group will return to Wyonegonic after the trip for debriefing and to share their experience with Wyonegonic Campers.
Each participant will receive a packing list of specific items necessary for this trip. Personal gear will be inspected as part of the trip preparation to insure adherence to the provided packing list. Please note that the group gear and food will be dispersed and carried by all trip participants.
