North Maine Woods Wilderness Canoe Expedition
June 30 - July 24, 2010

Stockwood Trips Session 2 - Wk 4 026 (Large)The group will report to Wyonegonic Camps in Denmark, ME to spend two days preparing for the trip. This preparation will include:

  • Orientation
  • Team building
  • Equipment inspection
  • Swim evaluation
  • Review of paddling skills
  • First Aid training
  • ARC Small Craft Safety training
  • Low impact camping practices

This trip will consist of two parts:

  • A canoe expedition starting in Seboomook Lake; the group will paddle their way east along the West Branch of the Penobscot River with a stop off in Lobster Lake. Then they will head north over the Height of Land into the Allagash watershed. This will require a challenging three mile portage. The group will then paddle, pole and portage their way north along the Allagash Lakes and River to Allagash Village and the St John River.
  • The group will then head to the Mattawamkeag River for three days of Class II and III river running in canoes. The group will base camp which will allow plenty of time on the river and its technical white water.

The paddlers will return to Wyonegonic after the trip for debriefing and to share their experience with Wyonegonic Campers.
