Job Descriptions
Cabin Counselors live with campers and provide for their daily well being. They also teach activities and have unit responsibilities. More details can be found here.
Activity Instructors are responsible for providing quality teaching in their assigned specialty. Many activities require certification that is offered by Wyonegonic in June. Most Activity Instructors are also Cabin Counselors. More detail can be found here.
Horseback Riding Staff live at the stables and are responsible for the care of our ten horses. The Horseback Riding Director is the primary riding instructor and is also responsible for the scheduling of lessons and supervision of instructors. Schedules revolve around the daily program of the five activity periods and the caring for the horses and stables. The Stable Manager is responsible for the overall care and well being of our ten horses and assists with lessons. Some cabin counseling staff also assist as additional riding instructors. Trip Leaders are counselors who have the responsibility for taking campers on out-of-camp trips ranging from one to six days. The trip leader performs their job according to Wyonegonic philosophy and ACA Standards. The goal of our trip program is to provide a safe, small group experience that offers adventure and challenge, appreciation for the outdoors and opportunity to share responsibility. The trip leaders need to be a minimum of 21 years old and have a clean driving record. They should be comfortable leading hiking, backpacking and canoeing trips with children. Pooh Corner Counselors are responsible for the young children whose parents are Wyonegonic staff members. Ages run from infant to age seven. Schedules are dictated by the needs of the children and their parents. It is common to have breaks during the day to make up for being on duty with the children in the evenings.
Health Center Nurses are registered RN’s who cover the health center 24 hours per day on a rotating schedule. They are responsible for the general health and safety of camp along with distributing daily medications and responding to emergencies.
Kitchen and Sanitation Assistants work on a team of seven who assist the chefs in the kitchen and dining hall. Job duties include dishwashing, cleaning the dining hall, food preparation, supervising the buffet table and salad bar, restocking food items, and assisting with inventory. A typical day starts as early as one hour prior to the first camper breakfast. Food preparation for afternoon and evening meals will be done during the day. Mid-morning and mid-afternoon breaks are usually possible. Daily responsibilities end after clean up from the evening meal is complete. One day a week, assistants are responsible for cleaning and sanitizing the bathrooms and showers around camp.
Maintenance Staff need to be hard workers and flexible in the tasks assigned on a daily basis. Regular duties include trash removal, grounds maintenance, sanitation and care of camp vehicles. Applicants need to be a minimum of 21 years old and have a clean driving record. Work typically begins immediately after a breakfast meeting and continues throughout the day with a break for lunch. Work is complete when daily and assigned tasks are finished. When on camp property maintenance assistants are expected to remain on call for any emergencies or repairs.
Office Staff are responsible for general office duties including phone coverage, data entry, mail sorting, photo copying and interacting with staff and parents. A friendly and courteous attitude is a must, along with a proficiency in computers. Office staff can be either resident or commuters.
