The Oldest Girls’ Camp in Maine
Who Are Our Campers?
Spirited and bold
Our campers make up a vibrant community representing 30 states and 12 countries where everyone belongs. Surrounded by simple living in a non-denominational setting, many may be experiencing something for the first time. Curiosity and eagerness to explore helps push campers to reach new heights. Free from technology, our campers embrace a more mindful and intentional way of living, building resilience, respect and a sense of independence that will stay with them long after the summer ends.
Our Camp Counselors
The ratio of camp counselors to campers is 1:3
Wyonegonic is fortunate to have many of our counselors and supervisory staff return each season. Counselors are positive mentors who have enthusiasm for working with children. They are encouraged to help the campers develop their positive qualities and assist them as they gain confidence. The most important responsibility for a cabin counselor is the awareness of each camper’s needs and to support them in feeling physically and emotionally safe away from home.
Program Philosophy
Flexibility within a general structure
Wyonegonic places an emphasis on waterfront activities and the outdoors. Each camper designs their own program weekly after setting goals with their counselor. They choose their schedule based on five instructional periods a day. Our campers challenge themselves with new activities in a non-competitive and safe atmosphere.
For campers ages 8 – 12
Their schedule includes a required swim lesson and outdoor living skills program for new campers: camp craft, ecology, and canoe. This component establishes the criteria for wilderness trip eligibility. Campers may also choose from: creative and dramatic arts, pottery, music, dance, tennis, archery, low ropes course, climbing wall, horseback riding, sailing, stand up paddle boarding, and kayaks.
For campers ages 13 – 15
Senior Camp runs a separate program with increased daily choice as well as additional activities such as windsurfing, racing sailing, waterskiing, riflery, and a high ropes challenge course.
Wilderness Trips
Hiking and canoeing trips for all ages
All campers are able to participate in trips. The focus is on campers using obtained outdoor living skills and respecting the Leave No Trace principles. Most campers experience an initial trial with an overnight at one of five wilderness sites on our lake or a day hike. Campers may also express interest in wilderness canoeing, hiking or backpacking trips in Maine and New Hampshire which vary from one to six days in length.

Family Camp Sessions
Experience Wyonegonic as a family
Family Camp sessions in August allow families to experience Wyonegonic. These sessions are often attended by prospective families considering camp for their children, family reunions of all generations, alumnae families, and friends.
