Learn About Our Summer Positions
Our staff are the heart of our community, guiding campers through experiences that teach life skills and spark curiosity. As part of our team, you’ll lead activities, support camper growth, and create a safe and welcoming environment. The job is fun, fast-paced, and offers plenty of opportunities to develop both professionally and personally. Our team values teamwork, creativity, and a passion for the outdoors. Cabin Counselors
Live with campers, provide mentorship, and support their growth and development.
Our counselors live in a cabin with campers and support campers with their adjustment away from home, establish norms and routines within the cabin group, and overall ensure that campers’ emotional and physical safety is nurtured and cared for. Counselors work together as a team with the other staff in their assigned units. Cabin counselors are also activity instructors and teach an average of 4 lessons each day. Most of our staff are cabin counselors.
Activity Instructors
Are responsible for providing quality teaching in their assigned specialty.


Activity Supervisors
Take on additional responsibility by overseeing their activity area.
Activity supervisor duties include:
- Maintaining equipment and supplies
- Oversight of lesson planning
- Supporting and evaluating staff throughout the season
- Camper achievement system
- Safety standards
- Leading pre-camp sessions and preparations
Supervisors have documented experience in teaching their activity area and have the leadership skills needed to organize, delegate, and assess staff performance.
Horseback Riding Staff
Live at the stables and are responsible for the care of our horses and horseback riding instructional program.
The Horseback Riding Supervisor is the primary instructor and is also responsible for the scheduling of lessons and supervision of instructors. Riding staff schedules revolve around the five instructional activity periods and the daily care of the horses and stables.
In addition, we hire several cabin counselors each season with an equestrian background who can also assist with lessons.
Trip Leaders
Counselors responsible for taking campers on out-of-camp wilderness trips ranging from one to six days.
The trip leader performs their job according to Wyonegonic program philosophy, ACA Standards, and Maine State requirements. The goal of our trip program is to provide a safe, small-group experience that offers adventure, appreciation for the outdoors, and an opportunity to share responsibility.
Trip leaders must be a minimum of 21 years old and have a clean driving record. They should be comfortable leading hiking, backpacking, and canoe trips with children. This position requires certifications offered by Wyonegonic in June (Wilderness First Aid, American Canoe Association Instructor, Waterfront Lifeguard, and Maine Trip Leader.)
Health Center Staff
Help keep our campers and staff healthy.
Our health center staff are registered Registered Nurses, Physicians, or Mental Health Professionals who cover the Health Center 24 hours a day on a rotating schedule. They are responsible for the general health, safety, and wellness of all campers and staff along with distributing daily medications and responding to emergencies.


Food Service
Provide delicious and nutritious meals for camp.
Our food service staff includes Chefs, Cooks, Assisting Cooks, and Kitchen and Sanitation Assistants who work as a team in the kitchen and dining hall.
Chefs and cooks are responsible for:
- Food preparation
- Menu
- Vegetarian and special dietary options
- Baking and supervision of meals
Job duties for assistants include:
- Dish-washing
- Cleaning the dining hall
- Assisting chefs with food preparation
- Supervising the buffet table and salad bar
- Restocking food items
- Assisting with inventory.
On a shared, rotating schedule, kitchen assistants are also responsible for cleaning and sanitizing the bathrooms and showers throughout camp.
Maintenance Staff
Help keep camp clean and running smoothly.
Maintenance staff are assigned duties that include:
- Trash removal
- Grounds maintenance
- Building maintenance
- Repairs, cleaning
- Sanitation
- Care of camp vehicles
Staff drive camp vehicles and support all camp operations. Applicants need to be a minimum of 21 years old and have a clean driving record. Most maintenance staff arrive at camp in early June to help prepare camp for the season and work through the end of August.
Office Support Staff
Support an efficiently run camp with administrative duties.
Office support staff help with phone coverage, data entry, mail sorting, photocopying, and interacting with staff and parents. A friendly and courteous attitude is a must, along with a proficiency in computer skills.
