Staff Schedules
A Typical Day-in-the-Life
There are surprisingly few “typical” days, but that is part of the beauty of camp. We have opportunities to be flexible, add the element of surprise, and even plan and implement creative events and schedules — we ensure that detours from our typical routine are carried out with careful planning and safety foremost in mind.
Unit Staff Schedules
Additional responsibilities will vary but the list below shows daily expectations for our unit staff. Camp counselors must be flexible and willing to take on additional duties when needed. Our goal is to schedule each camp counselor one hour of free time during the day.
Since we are taking care of children in residence, it truly is a 24 hour a day experience!
Morning
- Wake campers
- Accompany campers to the Cobb Dining Hall
- Sit at assigned tables and monitor dining hall behavior
- Supervise cabin-clean up with campers
- Teach two or three activity periods
- Supervise campers during unstructured time in cabins, on the cabin line or at recreational swim

Afternoon
- Accompany and account for campers at buffet lunch on the Cobb Dining Hall Porch
- Rest hour — camp counselors retire to cabins for quiet time with their campers
- Teach 2-3 activity periods
- Supervise campers during unstructured time in cabins, on the cabin line or at recreational swim
- Accompany campers to dinner
Evening
- After dinner each unit runs Evening program (“EP.”) We ask all unit staff to participate with the campers. You will be expected to take your turn leading and organizing an EP each week with a partner. You will select and plan an appropriate activity that is fun, safe, and age-appropriate. Most EPs fall in the category of creative fun (scavenger hunts, skits, dance parties, team games, etc.)
- Bedtime. We expect you to spend quality time with your campers at the end of the day. Come prepared with ideas of routines to help settle the girls for the night — reading a book, writing in journals, sharing highlights of the day. You are to remain in the cabin until campers are quiet and settled.
- After Bedtime. Each night, a percentage of staff in each unit remain on duty and stay in the unit to monitor and support campers. On Duty (OD) staff have a radio for communication with other Units and the Camp Director. The rest of the staff enjoy free time or socializing in the staff room.
- Cabin counselors sleep in their cabins each night and are considered on-call for your campers and any emergencies 24 hours a day.
Support Staff Schedules
Support Staff take care of our facility and offer support to each unit and camp program. Schedules will vary depending on the specific job description. All Support Staff are welcome and encouraged to join in with camp activities and Evening Programs during their free time if they so desire.
While there are surprisingly few “typical” days for the campers and counselors, Support Staff see more structure and routine to their day. However, they need to remain flexible to changes in schedule and assigned tasks.
All support staff should be ready to help out where needed to keep camp running smoothly.
Kitchen and Sanitation Assistants
- Kitchen shifts usually start one hour before breakfast
- Food preparation for afternoon and evening meals is done during the day. Mid-morning and mid-afternoon breaks are usually possible. Daily responsibilities end after clean-up from the evening meal is complete and the kitchen is secured for the night.
- When duties are complete (usually mid-afternoon), those assigned as sanitation assistants have free time for the rest of the day and are welcome to join camp activities. Each kitchen assistant will be assigned to the sanitation schedule one to two days per week.
Maintenance Assistants
- Begin work immediately after a breakfast meeting.
- Continue working throughout the day with a break for lunch and dinner.
- Work is completed when daily and assigned tasks are finished in the evening.
- When on camp property, maintenance staff are expected to remain on call for any emergencies or repairs.
