American Red Cross Lifeguarding with Waterfront Module 

Purpose: To be a trained waterfront lifeguard with rescue and first aid skills based on the American Red Cross Lifeguard Program (revised Feb 2012).   Meets ACA Standards.

2015 Dates:

  • Waterfront Lifeguarding Course 1:  Tuesday June 2nd starting at 9am – Friday June 5th finishing at 5pm
  • Waterfront Lifeguarding Course 2: Sunday June 7th starting at 9am – Wednesday June 10th finishing at 5pm
  • Waterfront Lifeguarding Course 3: Friday June 12th starting at 9am – Monday June 15th finishing at 5pm

Please note that the Lifeguarding training is a full time commitment, including evening classes and coursework.

Cost: $365

Prerequisites:

  • The minimum age is 15
  • Excellent physical condition and strong swimming strokes
  • Only participants who pass the practical pre-test will be allowed to continue the course.
    Pre-test includes:
  1. Surface dive underwater (7 – 10 ft) for a 10 pound object and swim 20 yards with object (timed)
  2. Swim 550 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. You may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles are allowed.
  3. Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. You should place your hands under your armpits.
  4. Submerged 15 yard underwater swim while retrieving diving rings.

Certification: American Red Cross Lifeguarding with Waterfront Module.  Includes First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. Certifications valid for 2 years.

Comments: All aquatics courses are physically demanding and occur in a fresh water lake. The temperatures in June can be extremely cold. We strongly recommend that you bring a wetsuit.

American Red Cross Lifeguarding with Waterfront Skills Review Course

Purpose: The Review course is designed to review the Lifeguarding skills and core knowledge points required to recertify in Waterfront Lifeguarding.  Includes CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid skills.  Meets ACA Standards.

2015 Dates:

  • Waterfront Lifeguarding Review Course:  Tuesday June 16th starting at 9am – Wednesday June 17th finishing at 11am

Please note candidates in the review course are required to show current certification and are expected to arrive having reviewed the lifeguarding course manual and to be prepared for taking all written exams.

Cost: $130

  • Current Red Cross Lifeguarding with Waterfront Module/First Aid/CPR/AED certification. Note: If the Waterfront Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certificate is expired, participants must take the full Lifeguarding Course.
