COVID-19 Practices

Wyonegonic COVID-19 Practices For Summer 2024
As of February 20, 2024; Subject to change

Health and safety are the top priorities at Wyonegonic. Wyonegonic operated successfully the past few summers by following guidelines and establishing policy that minimized risk to the camp community. We understand the need to balance mental health with the health and safety of everyone in our camp community. We expect that COVID-19 may be in our lives in some form during the summer of 2024. Therefore, up to date COVID-19 vaccination is encouraged for all campers and staff. Our COVID-19 multi-layered prevention and mitigation strategy is a flexible plan that will be adjusted as necessary in the months and weeks prior to camp, depending on guidance, regulations, and national and regional conditions. Our protocols will need to remain fluid.

We will continue to plan throughout the spring keeping in mind practices that worked well in past summers. Policies will be relevant for the current pandemic conditions at the time.

2024 Wyonegonic COVID-19 Vaccination Policy:

  • Up to date COVID-19 vaccination is encouraged for all campers and staff.

Pre-arrival and Travel to Camp:

  • A Healthy Camp Starts at Home! Every camper is asked to do their part to arrive healthy, including reducing and limiting potential exposure communicable disease including COVID-19. This protects the entire Wyonegonic community and will help towards achieving a successful camp experience.
  • Drop off by family in automobile is strongly encouraged
  • Limited airport and bus service available
  • Follow CDC recommendations for travelers with recommendations for the prevention of COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses.

Visitation Policy:

  • Opening day drop off and closing day pick up will allow for parents to have access and be able to visit the units and meet staff.
  • Parents of full season campers may arrange a visit on Saturday July 20th.
  • Visits will not be allowed for family members who are feeling ill or exhibiting symptoms.

Health Center Services:

  • A health screening will occur on arrival.
  • COVID-19 Mitigation and Testing:
    • At Camp COVID-19 Symptomatic Testing: Any symptomatic camp community member may be be tested for the COVID-19 virus.  This will be at the discretion of the Wyonegonic health center team.
    • Antiviral treatment may be prescribed by medical professionals if a high risk individual is positive for COVID-19.
    • Isolation plan for any positive cases per CDC guidelines. Expectations of parents/caregivers in case of a confirmed positive case is to pick up your camper for care and isolation at home before a return to camp.
    • Management of others exposed to a positive case will follow CDC guidelines.
    • Communication to parents/caregivers if a confirmed positive case.

The need for additional mitigation strategies may be utilized if appropriate:

  • Modifications to food service and meal distribution
  • Enhanced sanitation and hygiene
  • Program related decisions such as indoor use, intra and inter camp events
  • Cohort use
  • Masking (may be used for those who are ill or exposed to those who are ill.)

As the spring progresses, any information regarding operational guidance from the National Center for Disease Control (CDC) and State of Maine authorities will be updated as appropriate. Wyonegonic reserves the right to make changes to the camp program, sessions and dates as necessary.
